Naomi Oyoe Ohene Oti, an Oncology Nurse Specialist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, has clinched the 2025 Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award, walking away with a $250,000 prize. She was chosen from over 100,000 nominees across 199 countries and recognized among the top 10 finalists globally.
Her selection, alongside Kenya’s Khadija Mohamed Juma, shines a spotlight on African healthcare excellence on the international stage. The grand award ceremony took place in Dubai on Monday, May 26, 2025.
The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award honors outstanding nurses who demonstrate leadership, innovation, and lasting impact in healthcare. Mrs. Oti, who also heads the Nursing Department at Ghana’s National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre, was recognized for her groundbreaking efforts in cancer care across the continent.
With over two decades of service, Mrs. Oti has led transformative initiatives, including:
Training over 60 oncology nurse specialists and 10 breast care nurses
Developing Ghana’s first postgraduate oncology nursing curriculum in 2015
Spearheading capacity-building programs in cancer care nationwide
Her influence stretches beyond Ghana. She is:
A member of the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC)
A co-investigator on the Global Bridges Oncology Grant
A faculty member for the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s global cancer courses
She has also received notable accolades, including the Ministry of Health’s Excellence Award and the Dr. Dorcia Kisseh International Award.
