Ghana Rises to 18th in Global Rankings for Students in U.S. Universities

Ghana has achieved a remarkable milestone, ranking 18th globally in the 2024 Open Doors Report for the number of students studying in the United States.

The report, published by the Institute of International Education (IIE), revealed that 9,394 Ghanaians were enrolled in U.S. universities during the 2023–2024 academic year. This marks a 45.2% increase from the previous year and represents an all-time high for Ghana.

Ghana also ranked ninth worldwide for the number of graduate students in the U.S., with 6,337 Ghanaians pursuing advanced degrees—a 54% increase from the prior year.

In addition to these accomplishments, Ghanaian students collectively received nearly $9.2 million in scholarships distributed across more than 680 universities in all 50 U.S. states, as confirmed by the U.S. Embassy in Ghana.

This growth underscores the rising global competitiveness of Ghanaian students and their increasing pursuit of higher education opportunities abroad.
