The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has announced stringent measures to ensure a safe environment for the upcoming general elections. These measures include the establishment of an election security secretariat tasked with overseeing, planning, and executing election-related activities. Collaborating with other security agencies, the GPS aims to ensure the elections proceed smoothly without any security breaches.

During the passing out ceremony of 29 graduates and 159 general recruits at the Regional Police Training School in Ho, Commissioner of Police (COP) Iddi Lansah Seidu, Director-General of ICT at the Police Headquarters, revealed these plans. He emphasized the significance of the new officers upholding fairness and respecting citizens’ rights while enforcing election laws.

COP Seidu highlighted the evolving nature of security threats, such as complex and cyber-related crimes, which demand a more diverse, skilled, and specialized approach from law enforcement. To address these challenges, the GPS has revamped its training module, emphasizing practical field exercises in areas like riding, driving, swimming, crowd control, and incident management. Nearly 7,000 new police personnel have already undergone training under this revised program.
