In a bid to secure a promising future for the Ghanaian national football team, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has established a 5-member committee to spearhead the quest for the next Black Stars coach. Chaired by Mark Addo, Vice President of the GFA, the committee includes legal practitioner and law lecturer Ace Ankomah (Esq.), Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, Ghanaian football legend Opoku Nti, and William Caesar Kartey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Mark Addo, who chairs the committee, brings a wealth of experience but is not immune to past challenges. He presided over the Black Stars during the disastrous AFCON campaign in Ivory Coast and the embarrassing World Cup exit in Qatar 2022, where the management received $100,000 each. However, Addo also led the committee that brought Otto Addo to coach and was at the helm under Chris Hughton.
The search committee has a three-week timeline to present their recommendation for the next Black Stars coach, a position that has become vacant after the exit of Chris Hughton following Ghana’s elimination from the ongoing AFCON. The criteria set by the GFA for the potential coach include being a proven winner in men’s national team or club football, having a track record in team reconstruction, organization, and development of young talent, holding the highest football license with over 15 years of coaching experience, and being a proven disciplinarian and tactician with leadership skills.
