Four people have lost their lives and 12 others sustained injuries in a tragic accident at Wakrom Junction near Yamoransa on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway on Monday, September 15, 2025.
The crash occurred at about 2:45 p.m. when a DAF truck, loaded with 700 bags of rice and registered AW 9548-13, collided with a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle with registration number GC 9728-21.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Central Regional Rescue Team, which arrived at the scene minutes later, extricated five victims from the wreckage. Four were later pronounced dead at the hospital, while one critically injured passenger is undergoing treatment.
Before the GNFS arrived, nine passengers had already been rescued and rushed to nearby hospitals. In total, 17 people were involved in the accident. The driver and his mate in the truck escaped unhurt.
As of late Monday, rescue efforts were still ongoing to free one person trapped in the mangled vehicle. The accident caused heavy traffic congestion along the busy stretch as emergency workers worked to clear the road.
Authorities have since urged motorists to drive cautiously on the highway to help prevent further tragedies.
