On his 65th birthday, former President John Dramani Mahama marked the occasion by paying a visit to the Shai Osudoko District Hospital, making a significant contribution to the medical facility. Responding to an urgent appeal from the hospital’s Medical Director, Mr. Mahama generously donated essential medical equipment, including two modern incubators, two phototherapy machines, and four CPAP machines. This donation came as a surprise to the medical staff, as it arrived swiftly after the Director’s request, just two days following a preliminary visit by a team from the former President’s office.
Accompanied by his children and personnel from his office, Mr. Mahama expressed his gratitude to his wife and the Lordina Foundation for their role in facilitating the procurement of the medical equipment. He shared his joy in returning to his cherished hospital environment to celebrate this special day.
The Shai Osudoko District Hospital, inaugurated in April 2016 during Mahama’s presidency, remains a testament to the government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare accessible to Ghanaians. This 120-bed hospital was the pioneer among six district hospitals initiated by the Mahama administration, aiming to establish top-tier health facilities in various districts to enhance healthcare accessibility.
Additionally, Mr. Mahama extended his generosity by providing food and non-food items to patients, nursing mothers, and hospital staff. The donation comprised 150 bags of rice, 50 bags of sugar, detergents, 200 packs of soft drinks and water, 40 boxes of biscuits, 35 boxes of cooking oil, 20 boxes of tomato paste, 90 school bags, and 100 packs of baby diapers.
The medical staff at the hospital expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the much-needed equipment and provisions. Dr. Kennedy T. C. Brightson, the Medical Director, conveyed his surprise at the prompt response to their appeal, emphasizing the critical importance of these contributions in enhancing healthcare services at the hospital.
Former President Mahama’s act of kindness and commitment to supporting healthcare provision in Ghana once again underscored his dedication to improving the lives of the country’s citizens.
