Former Footballer Richard Appiah Convicted of Murdering Two Children in Abesim

A jury has unanimously found former footballer Richard Appiah guilty of murder in connection with the killing of two children in Abesim in the Bono Region.

The case, which shocked the nation, involved the deaths of Appiah’s stepbrother and two other children aged between 12 and 15 years. Following a report to police on August 20, 2021, officers proceeded to Appiah’s residence, where they discovered the dismembered body of one of the victims stored in a refrigerator. Two additional bodies were found in separate rooms within the house.

Subsequent investigations led law enforcement officers to a cocoa farm in Abesim, where intestines believed to belong to one of the victims were uncovered and exhumed for forensic examination.

Investigators also retrieved two bloodstained machetes from the scene as part of the evidence presented in court.

The unanimous guilty verdict marks a significant development in one of the most disturbing criminal cases in the Bono Region in recent years.
