A fire outbreak at Tolon Senior High School in the Tolon District of the Northern Region has displaced 346 students after it destroyed the school’s girls’ dormitory on Monday morning, February 2, 2026.
The fire reportedly started around 7:20 a.m. and spread rapidly, gutting five dormitories located on the top floor of the facility. The affected dormitories include three in Gbewaa House, one in Furgurson House, and one in Tolon-Naa House.

The incident caused extensive damage to the already congested boarding facilities, leaving several students stranded and without access to their personal belongings. Eyewitnesses say the fire triggered panic among students, who rushed out of the dormitory as flames engulfed the building.
The Ghana National Fire Service was swiftly deployed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the school. No casualties were reported at the time of filing this report.

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially determined, but investigations are expected to be carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
School authorities and local officials are currently assessing the extent of the damage, while temporary arrangements are expected to be made to accommodate the displaced students.
