A final year student of Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has reportedly taken his own life in his private hostel at West Tanokrom, a suburb of the Effia-Kwesiminstim Municipality in the Western Region.
The deceased, identified as Derick, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his room, having allegedly used a sponge as a makeshift noose. Derick, a native of Bogoso in the Prestea Huni Valley District, was well-regarded by his fellow tenants, who described him as sociable and friendly.
The discovery was made when a tenant noticed Derick’s phone ringing unanswered, prompting concern. Upon entering his room, the tenant was met with the grim sight and immediately alerted the authorities.
Police from the Takoradi Central Police Station swiftly responded to the scene, and the body was later transported to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue for further examination.
Despite initial speculations of suicide, some residents suspect foul play, citing the unusual position of the deceased’s hands, which were reportedly tied behind his back. These suspicions have led to calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Derick’s death.
Efforts to confirm the identity of the deceased with the school’s authorities have so far been unsuccessful, adding to the mystery surrounding this tragic incident.
