Following their lackluster performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana has experienced a significant drop in the latest FIFA World Rankings. The Black Stars, who concluded 2023 in the 61st position, have now dropped to 67th globally and find themselves in the 14th spot on the African continent.
Ghana’s downward slide comes in the wake of their disappointing outing at the AFCON, where they failed to advance past the group stage after managing only two points from three matches against Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.
The reshuffle in the rankings sees Cape Verde, South Africa, and DR Congo all leapfrogging Ghana on the African rankings chart.
Meanwhile, Côte d’Ivoire, who clinched the AFCON title on home soil, reaps the rewards by climbing ten places to 39th globally. Nigeria, the beaten finalists, also make significant strides, climbing 14 spots to 28th in the world ranking.
Notably, Angola, who fell to Nigeria in the quarter-finals, emerges as the biggest climbers in the latest rankings, soaring 24 places to 93rd globally.
