Tensions have erupted in Bole following the confirmation of Abdulai Muhmod as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), with angry youth rejecting his nomination and staging fierce protests across the town.
The demonstrators, visibly enraged, burned tyres and stormed the premises of the Bole District Assembly in a show of discontent. Their agitation escalated to threats against key political figures, including President John Dramani Mahama and the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Sulemana Yusif, prompting immediate security interventions.
In response to the growing unrest, police forces have been deployed to restore calm and safeguard the homes of the threatened individuals. The security presence in Bole has since been intensified to prevent further violence and ensure public safety.
Some of the protestors, speaking to Adom News, described Abdulai Muhmod as an outsider who lacks familiarity and connection with the local community. They accused higher authorities of imposing him on the municipality without broader consultation.
“Mahmoud, before becoming MCE, was saying that it is high time the Mole people disassociate themselves from the Gonjas so is this the kind of person you want to become MCE?” questioned Saaka Shaibu, one of the protest leaders.
The situation remains tense as community leaders, security officials, and political stakeholders engage in dialogue to defuse the crisis.
