The United States Embassy in Ghana has announced that it issued approximately 25,000 visas to Ghanaian applicants in 2024, out of a total of 61,000 applications received.
This revelation was made during the U.S. Embassy’s Consular Media Day held on Friday, May 9, 2025. The event aimed to demystify the U.S. visa application process, address public concerns, and enhance awareness about current visa policies and procedures.
Speaking at the session, U.S. Consular General Elliot Fertik reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and transparent visa process for all applicants. “We continue to welcome visitors from Ghana who are interested in studying, investing, or doing business in the United States,” he stated.
Fertik emphasized that while the U.S. encourages legitimate travel, it remains firm on issues of immigration compliance. “The United States has zero tolerance for illegal immigration. Those who break the rules will face the law, including visa refusal or a permanent ban from entering the country,” he warned.
He further urged prospective travelers to avoid shortcuts or fraudulent means in their quest to travel to the U.S., noting that such actions could have long-term consequences.
“We want to ensure Ghanaians understand the proper process of applying for a visa and what is expected of them. A transparent system is in place, and we are here to help genuine travelers navigate it effectively,” Fertik added.
