The European Union has awarded Ghana €2.4 million to support four major forest restoration projects aimed at reviving degraded reserves damaged by illegal mining, logging, and wildfires.

The grant, awarded to three not-for-profit organisations, will facilitate the restoration of about 5,000 hectares of forest reserves across the Ahafo, Bono East, Upper East, and Western Regions. The initiative is also expected to boost the livelihoods of farmers living in affected communities.

EU Delegation official Paulina Pozycka warned that continued degradation poses serious threats to ecosystems and rural economies. She said the EU is committed to supporting Ghana’s forest restoration agenda and helping communities that depend on forest resources.

In addition to restoration activities, the project will train 20,000 rural farmers to enhance their income and improve sustainable land-use practices.
