The English Premier League’s 2023-2024 season has encountered a fresh wave of controversy with the release of the Goal of the Season Award nominees.
Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus, currently playing for West Ham, was not included in the 10-man nominee list.
Despite netting a spectacular overhead kick against Manchester City on the final day of the season, the former Ajax Amsterdam player did not make the shortlist.
Earlier in the season, the 23-year-old also scored an impressive scissor kick in West Ham’s 3-2 victory over Brentford.
The nomination process has frustrated many fans, as winners of the Goal of the Month Awards from the recently concluded season, along with an outstanding goal in May, are eligible for the award.
Moises Caicedo’s long-range strike in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over AFC Bournemouth was included as the standout goal for May.
Consequently, past winners of this season’s Goal of the Month Award, such as Bruno Fernandes’ goal against Burnley, which was voted the best goal in September, were selected over Kudus.
The winner will be chosen through public votes and an expert panel. Scroll down to see the complete list of nominees.
