EC Initiates ID Card Replacement Exercise for Guan Constituents Ahead of 2024 Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the commencement of an initiative to replace identification cards (ID cards) for the residents of Guan constituency in preparation for the upcoming 2024 general elections. Guan constituency comprises the towns of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL), which were inadvertently excluded from the electoral process during the 2020 elections due to the establishment of the new Oti Region.

This development signifies that residents of SALL will be duly represented by a Member of Parliament (MP) in the 2024 elections.

During a press conference held in Accra, Mr. Samuel Tettey, a Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission, disclosed that the ID card replacement exercise was initiated on Tuesday, October 3, and is slated to conclude on Thursday, November 2.

The EC stated that this action has become necessary due to a discrepancy in the voter registration process that took place in 2020. During that registration, voters in the Guan District inadvertently registered in the Jasikan District.

The Commission further clarified that following the establishment of the Guan District, the voter ID cards, which originally bore the Jasikan District designation, have been modified to reflect the code of the Guan District.
