The Eastern Regional Police Command has intercepted two tipper trucks loaded with a significant quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, in a major anti-narcotics operation.
According to a press statement issued by Superintendent Ebenezer Tetteh of the Public Affairs Unit, the operation took place at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Apesua, near Nkurakan.
The two Howo Sino tipper trucks, bearing registration numbers GN 993-14 and GG 3674-20, were concealed with piles of sand under which 150 sacks of the suspected substances were hidden. Acting on intelligence, police operatives successfully intercepted the trucks before they could proceed further with the illegal cargo.
Two suspects, identified as the drivers of the vehicles, were arrested on the spot and are currently in custody assisting with investigations. Their identities have been withheld for security and operational reasons.
Superintendent Tetteh assured the public that further updates will be shared as investigations unfold.
The police have also called on the general public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to support ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
