Youth advocate and endurance cyclist Ibrahim Jazil Abanga, popularly known as MC-Emperor Abanga, is set to undertake a 600-kilometre cycling expedition from Tamale to Accra ahead of Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations.
Dubbed the Tamale to Accra Independence Cycling Expedition 2026, the six-day journey will run from March 1 to March 6, 2026, with the cyclist expected to arrive in Accra before 8:00 a.m. on Independence Day.
The initiative, themed “Cycling for Skills. Riding for Ghana,” aims to promote Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a key driver of economic growth and youth employment.
According to organisers, the expedition seeks to stimulate national dialogue on the importance of practical skills, craftsmanship, and technical competence in advancing Ghana’s development agenda.
The route will pass through Tamale, Kintampo, Techiman, Kumasi, Nkawkaw, and finally Accra, symbolically linking the Northern Region to the capital and reinforcing the message of inclusive national development.
Organisers noted that the endurance ride reflects the discipline and resilience required to build a skilled workforce and a strong economy. The expedition is also expected to engage communities along the route and spotlight youth empowerment and skills training.
In January 2025, Abanga undertook a similar cycling expedition to honour the 2024 election victory of President John Dramani Mahama and to mark his inauguration.
