The High Court in Accra has varied the bail conditions of former National Petroleum Authority Chief Executive Officer, Dr Mustapha Hamid, and nine other accused persons facing criminal charges over the alleged extortion of oil marketing companies.
The accused were initially granted bail on December 9, 2025, under conditions that required them to report periodically to the Registrar of the court.
However, following an application filed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, the court amended the reporting requirements.
The OSP argued that directing the accused to report to the lead investigator, rather than the court registrar, would allow for more effective monitoring and tracking of the individuals throughout the legal proceedings.
In its ruling, the court ordered that the accused persons are to report to the lead investigator on the first and third Tuesdays of every month until the commencement of the trial.
The court further directed the lead investigator to submit monthly reports to the court on compliance with the reporting conditions.
Once the trial begins, the accused will be required to report only on the first Tuesday of each month, which will coincide with scheduled court sittings.
Additionally, the court ordered that a stop list be placed at all entry points to prevent the accused persons from leaving the jurisdiction without authorisation.
