The Accra Circuit Court 9 has sentenced 33-year-old preacher Christopher Kofi Okyere Sorkpa to five years in prison for vandalizing four vehicles, including two V8s, a Toyota Camry, and a RAV4, within the premises of Parliament on December 18, 2024.
Sorkpa pleaded guilty to all charges. He received a three-year sentence on the first count and five years on five additional counts, with the sentences running concurrently.
A second accused, 41-year-old preacher Wisdom Ahli, also pleaded guilty to the first count. However, His Lordship Samuel Bright Acquah directed the prosecution to amend the charges against Ahli, adjourning his trial to January 9, 2025, for further proceedings.
According to the charge sheet, the two men, both residents of Kasoa, entered the Parliament House car park around 1:00 PM on December 18, 2024. Concealing an earth chisel in a handbag, they used the tool to damage the windscreens of four vehicles belonging to Members of Parliament.
The suspects were arrested at the scene and confessed to the crime in their caution statements, which were taken in the presence of an independent witness.
During Friday’s proceedings, Justice Acquah emphasized the need for the prosecution to carefully review the charges against the second accused before the next court session.
