The Kasoa Akweley District Court has granted bail to 18 suspects arrested in connection with the recent attack on the Nyanyano Palace in the Central Region.
The suspects, who are facing charges of causing damage to property, disturbing public peace, and creating fear and panic, made their second appearance before the court on Friday, February 6, 2026.
During the hearing, the prosecution amended the charge sheet and applied for an extension of the suspects’ initial remand period, citing the need for more time to complete investigations. However, counsel for the accused persons opposed the application, arguing that the prosecution could not continue seeking repeated extensions and that the suspects were entitled to bail under the law.
Presiding over the case, Her Worship Ama Adomako-Kwakye admitted all 18 suspects to bail. Fifteen of them were first arraigned last Monday, while three were arrested at a later date. Each suspect was granted bail in the sum of GHS60,000 with one surety.
As part of the bail conditions, the court ordered the accused persons to report to the Gomoa Nyanyano Police Station every Monday and Thursday.
The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2026, for continuation.
Speaking to Citi News after the proceedings, counsel for the accused, Emmanuel Sarfo, welcomed the court’s decision and stressed that the rights of the suspects must be respected.
“The prosecution says they are not ready to take pleas because investigations are ongoing. But they cannot always ask the court for extensions. Under the law, every accused person is entitled to bail,” he said.
The Nyanyano Palace attack, which occurred last Sunday night, sparked tension in the area and led to the arrest of several individuals as police investigations continue.
