Shedding light on the financial burden faced by families dealing with life-threatening conditions like dialysis, she emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that “Treatment fees for dialysis is not something to joke with.”

During a discussion on GTV’s breakfast show, hosted by Thelma Tackie, Nee-Okpey drew a poignant analogy to capture the seriousness of the matter. She likened the situation to a madman dancing in a market square, highlighting how onlookers may find it amusing, but the reality remains dire for the individual and their relatives. Nee-Okpey emphasized that one needs to have a loved one suffering from such a condition to truly appreciate the burden of unaffordable treatment services.

Nee-Okpey further highlighted the disparity between the slow increase in minimum wages in the country and the soaring prices of essential goods and services, including healthcare. She pointed out that Ghana has witnessed minimal increases in minimum wages, while the cost of goods and services, especially healthcare, has skyrocketed at a faster pace. This discrepancy exacerbates the financial strain on families already grappling with life-threatening conditions.
