The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has strongly refuted claims circulating on social media that the government has announced an increase in cocoa prices.

A widely shared flyer alleged that Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, had declared cocoa farmers would receive 70 percent of the world market price. COCOBOD has dismissed this as entirely false and misleading.

In an official statement posted on its Facebook page, COCOBOD urged farmers and the general public to ignore the misinformation and rely only on official sources for accurate updates regarding cocoa pricing.

“Our attention has been drawn to a false flyer circulating on social media claiming that the Minister for Food and Agriculture has announced an increase in cocoa prices. This information is completely untrue,” the statement emphasized.

The regulatory body reassured stakeholders that any changes to cocoa prices would be communicated through official channels, including COCOBOD and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

This clarification comes at a crucial time when cocoa farmers are closely monitoring price developments amid global market uncertainties. The cocoa industry in Ghana faces multiple challenges, including rising production costs, climate-related risks, and shifting global supply and demand.

Farmers have consistently pushed for higher prices to match their operational expenses, but COCOBOD maintains that any adjustments will be formally announced to prevent misinformation.

The false flyer has sparked confusion among cocoa farmers and industry stakeholders, highlighting the need for vigilance against misinformation regarding such a crucial sector of Ghana’s economy.
