Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, the Electoral Commission (EC) staff member who petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to remove Chairperson Jean Mensa and her two deputies, has confirmed that he is currently on interdiction.
Mr Adumadzie filed the petition under Article 146 of the Constitution, accusing the EC leadership of misconduct. He maintains that his interdiction is not the motivation behind his petition but says he acted out of concern for how the Commission is being managed.
He revealed on Citi Eyewitness News that he has been away from work for some time due to allegations linking him to old Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) found in a refuse dump. He insisted the accusations are false, stressing that the devices were never in his possession.
According to him, the EC took legal action against him but failed to prove its allegations in court. He said he won the case a year ago and has since filed a countersuit against the Commission.
Mr Adumadzie stated that his petition is based on the need to protect the integrity of the EC. In the petition, he outlines 12 allegations of misconduct against the Chairperson and her deputies, including cronyism, abuse of office and gross incompetence. He argues that these issues undermine public confidence in the Commission and threaten the credibility of Ghana’s electoral system.
He is calling on President Mahama to refer the petition to the Chief Justice to determine whether there is a prima facie case, as required by the Constitution.
