The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has declared a nationwide strike for all staff at the Births and Deaths Registry, effective Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The decision follows allegations of misconduct by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway.
In a letter dated June 12 and addressed to the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, CLOGSAG accused Mr. Botchway of creating a hostile work environment. The letter, which was also copied to key government institutions, cited concerns over unauthorized staff transfers, verbal abuse, and intimidation, which the Association claims have made the workplace unsafe.
The latest industrial action revives tensions from a previous nationwide strike in March 2025, which was suspended following assurances from the Ministry to address leadership issues at the Registry. CLOGSAG, however, says no meaningful progress has been made since then.
At a recent emergency meeting, the Association’s National Executive Council resolved that staff should remain at home until conditions at the Registry improve.
