Chinese Gold Miner Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited Plans to Construct Airport in Ghana’s Upper East Region

Chinese mining company, Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited, a subsidiary of Shandong Gold, has announced plans to construct an airport in northern Ghana’s Upper East Region. The airport will serve the region and support the company’s gold mining operations. Initially, Cardinal Namdini had proposed building an airstrip exclusively for its own use in the Talensi District, where they are set to commence gold mining by the fourth quarter of 2024. However, following discussions with the transport ministry, the company agreed to construct a full-fledged airport, considering the absence of an airport in the region.

During a tour of the mining site, Cardinal Namdini’s project manager, Steve Ofori-Asamoah, revealed the airport plans to other dignitaries and media outlets, including the Daily Graphic. Ofori-Asamoah explained that the primary purpose of the airport is to facilitate the transportation of the company’s employees from the region to other major cities in Ghana, such as Kumasi, Accra, and Takoradi. Additionally, the airport will be used for transporting gold bullion.
