Gender Advocate Promotes Early Diagnosis and Screening during Pink Month
Madam Khalida M. A. Seidu, a prominent Gender Advocate, has called on husbands to actively participate in assisting their wives with breast self-examinations to promote early diagnosis and treatment. She emphasized that the involvement of husbands in this home-based self-examination process can significantly encourage their wives to conduct regular breast cancer checks and promptly seek medical attention when necessary.
Madam Seidu, who is also a lecturer at Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University, made this plea in Wa as part of a free breast cancer screening event held to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, often referred to as Pink Month. The initiative, organized by Madam Seidu, received support from Supper Cool Pack Mineral Water, Cool Pack Mineral Water, and local businessman Alhaji Alhassan Uthman Gbangu.
A total of 256 women in Wa underwent the screening, with five of them suspected of having breast cancer being referred to the Wa Municipal Hospital for further comprehensive screening and testing.
Madam Seidu highlighted the significance of the event, emphasizing her commitment to the health and well-being of vulnerable groups, particularly women. She stressed the importance of raising awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
During the screening, all women were educated about breast cancer symptoms and taught how to conduct self-examinations at home.
Some of the women who participated in the screening expressed their gratitude for the initiative, as it had provided them with valuable insights into their breast cancer status. They encouraged other women to take advantage of such free screening opportunities to monitor their health status, emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention.
Madam Maria Johana Yuorpor, the CEO of Mara Foods, also participated in the screening and stressed the need for year-round breast cancer awareness campaigns. She observed that more people were recognizing the importance of regular screening and encouraged women to be proactive in self-examining their breasts and seeking specialist attention as needed.
Madam Adishetu Bolibie, a Midwife at the Wa Municipal Hospital, urged women to be vigilant for breast abnormalities such as unusual lumps, discharges, or skin changes and advised them to promptly seek medical evaluation if any concerning signs were detected.
