
The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into a shooting incident involving a police officer that occurred on Sunday, 19th January 2026, around the Tetegu area near Weija in the Greater Accra Region.
In a press release issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service and dated 20th January 2026, preliminary findings indicate that a policewoman allegedly shot a taxi driver following a confrontation.
According to the Police, the deceased driver was operating a Hyundai i10 taxi cab at the time of the incident. He was rushed to the Police Hospital for emergency medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations revealed that the policewoman was subsequently hit by a vehicle while attempting to leave the scene, sustaining injuries to her head and both legs. She is currently on admission and receiving medical care.
Police investigators who processed the scene recovered one live 9mm round, a magazine, and one empty 9mm cartridge, which have been taken into custody as exhibits to aid ongoing investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that investigations are actively ongoing and that further developments will be communicated as they become available.
