Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, is set to appoint a new head coach by Monday, according to Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams.
The minister disclosed that the search process is in its final stages, with only a few candidates left to be engaged before a final decision is made.
“Hopefully, if by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, latest by Monday, we should be able to announce our new coach. We’ve come very far,” he said in an interview yet to be aired.
The urgency surrounding the appointment is driven by the fast-approaching 2026 FIFA World Cup, with less than 70 days remaining before Ghana begins its campaign.
Currently, the Black Stars are without a head coach—a situation that has raised concerns among fans and analysts about the team’s readiness for the global tournament.
Several experienced coaches have been linked to the role, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos.
All three bring significant international pedigree, fueling expectations that Ghana could secure a high-caliber manager ahead of the tournament.
Kofi Adams admitted that Ghana is not fully prepared at the moment, largely due to the absence of a technical leader.
“If I tell you that we are ready today, we don’t even have a head coach. So it means that we are not fully ready yet,” he acknowledged.
However, he expressed optimism that the team will be ready in time for their opening match, emphasizing the quality within the current squad despite comparisons to past generations.
As part of preparations, Ghana is scheduled to play international friendlies against the Mexico national football team and the Wales national football team.
These matches are expected to help fine-tune tactics, assess player performance, and build cohesion ahead of the tournament.
With the countdown to the World Cup intensifying, attention is now firmly on the Ghana Football Association and the Sports Ministry to finalize the appointment.
The upcoming decision could play a pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s performance on the world stage, as the Black Stars aim to make a strong impression at the tournament.
