Early Life and Education
Hon. Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, born on August 4, 1978, in Ejisu Odaho, Ashanti Region, Ghana, was a distinguished Ghanaian politician, entrepreneur, preacher, and lawyer. He received his secondary education at Opoku Ware School in Kumasi. Continuing his academic journey, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with Philosophy from the University of Ghana (Legon). He furthered his studies, earning an MBA in Finance from GIMPA and pursued degrees in Law (LLB) from the University of Ghana and a Professional Law Degree (BL) from the Ghana School of Law. Additionally, he obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Business Research from the Nobel International Business School and received a Doctorate in Business Innovation from the Swiss Business School in Switzerland.
Career
Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah was admitted to the Ghana Bar as a Solicitor and Legal Practitioner for the Supreme Court of Ghana in 2013. He co-founded and served as Managing Partner of Aduaprokye Chambers, a reputable law firm in Adabraka. Additionally, he established Majak Associates Ltd, a prominent building and construction company. In 2017, he was appointed CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), where he played a pivotal role in supporting youth development and job creation.
Politics
In the 2020 Ghanaian general election, Dr. Kumah successfully contested and won the Parliamentary seat for the Ejisu constituency under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket. He served as Deputy Minister for Finance and was actively involved in various parliamentary committees, including Vice Chairperson of the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee.
Personal Life
Dr. John Kumah was married to Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, the Founder and Senior Pastor of Disciple of Christ Ministries Worldwide. Together, they had six biological children and fostered numerous others.
Honors and Awards
Dr. Kumah was recognized for his exemplary leadership and integrity, receiving accolades such as the Most Efficient, Prominent Appointee for 2018 and inclusion in President Akufo Addo’s list of Top 20 Most Humble and Respectful Appointees in 2019. He was also honored as the Most Outstanding Integrity CEO and received awards for his influential leadership and contributions to entrepreneurship and student activism.
Philanthropy
Throughout his life, Dr. Kumah demonstrated a commitment to philanthropy, exemplified by his contributions to victims of road accidents, including funding prosthesis for several individuals.
Death
Tragically, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah passed away after a short illness on March 7, 2024, at the age of 46, while in Ghana.
