Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has officially sworn in two new Members of Parliament, Bernard Bediako Baidoo of Akwatia and Professor Alidu Seidu of Tamale Central.
The brief swearing-in ceremony took place during Tuesday’s parliamentary sitting, marking the formal induction of the two National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislators following recent by-elections in their respective constituencies.
Bernard Bediako Baidoo won the Akwatia by-election with 18,199 votes, filling the vacancy left by the late Ernest Yaw Kumi. In Tamale Central, Professor Alidu Seidu was declared the winner after running unopposed, succeeding the late Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who tragically died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
After administering the oaths of allegiance and office, Speaker Bagbin congratulated the two lawmakers, urging them to remain faithful to their oath of office and serve the nation with dedication. He reminded them that public service demands integrity, accountability, and loyalty to the principles of parliamentary democracy.
With their induction, the NDC caucus in Parliament now strengthens its numbers to 185 members, following the support of four independent MPs who have declared their intention to align and conduct business with the NDC in the House.
