Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, has formally requested to be vetted virtually ahead of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary scheduled for February 7.
The request was confirmed by the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the NDC, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, during the filing of nominations by aspirants.
According to Mr. Tetteh Chaie, Hajia Amina Adam is currently observing Iddah, a four-month widowhood seclusion period in line with Islamic tradition, which restricts her physical participation in public activities. He noted that the party leadership is yet to take a final decision on whether to grant her request for virtual vetting.
Hajia Amina Adam officially filed her nomination to contest the NDC parliamentary slot in the Ayawaso East constituency following the death of her husband, which triggered a by-election. She is competing against four other aspirants, including Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed.
The outcome of the party’s decision on the vetting arrangement is expected ahead of the primary as preparations intensify.
