The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled Nana Amofa Twumasi II, the chief of Mpasaaso No.2 in the Ashanti Region, over multiple allegations, including illegal mining.

Other accusations against the chief include concerns about his royal lineage and a lack of accountability to his community and traditional leaders.

Having ruled for 41 years, Nana Amofa Twumasi II was found guilty after appearing before the Asanteman Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace. His involvement in illegal mining, which has led to the destruction of water bodies in the Mpasaaso community, was a key factor in his destoolment.

The Asantehene emphasized that traditional leaders have a duty to uphold customs and protect the land. He warned that chieftaincy must not be used as a tool for personal gain at the expense of the environment and the well-being of the people.

The Manhyia Palace has recently taken strong actions against chiefs involved in illegal mining, reinforcing its commitment to preserving traditional values and environmental sustainability.
