Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba Resign Amid Audit Delay on National Cathedral Project

In a heartfelt and faith-based resignation letter addressed to the leadership of the National Cathedral project in Ghana, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba have announced their departure from the Board of Trustees. The prominent church figures expressed their deep respect for the project’s vision but cited concerns over the lack of progress in conducting an audit of public funds contributed to the National Cathedral.

The two religious leaders, who have been active members of the Board of Trustees, pointed to a draft Resolution submitted in January 2023. This resolution recommended deferring all activities related to the construction of Ghana’s National Cathedral until the findings of an audit were made available. They emphasized the need for transparency and accountability to the Ghanaian people, calling for the appointment of an independent accounting firm to carry out the audit.

Regrettably, since the submission of this resolution, there has been no news regarding the audit’s findings. As a result, Archbishop Duncan-Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba found it necessary to resign from their positions on the Board of Trustees. Their decision, rooted in conscience and faith, is intended to ensure that the National Cathedral project is advanced with integrity, efficiency, and quality, while maintaining public trust and support.

Their resignation letter contained a firm assurance that their action is not meant to undermine the vision of the National Cathedral but rather to ensure it is built on a foundation of transparency and accountability. They expressed their hope that one day, the National Cathedral of Ghana will become a reality, serving as a sacred space for various religious and state functions and contributing to the nation’s tourism sector.

The resignation of these prominent church leaders highlights the importance of addressing concerns related to the project’s financial transparency and accountability. The National Cathedral project, a significant endeavor in Ghana, is still in the spotlight, as the nation awaits further developments.
