A group of armed robbers attacked a Bullion van belonging to ABSA Bank and made away with huge some of money.
This incidence is said to have taken place last Friday, 8th of May around 5:30pm in the evening at at Mmaampehia, near Techiman in the Bono East Region.
The armed robbers took off with an AK 47 rifle and 19 rounds of ammunition which they had seized from a policeman on board the bullion van after injuring them.
However, the Ghana police was also able to retrieve GH¢234,000 of the amount, which was being transported to an undisclosed destination by the absa Bank.
The Report
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Djan Kyere of The Bono East Regional Police Command, to Daily Graphic, a group of armed robbers attacked and shot at the van.
During the attack, they injured the driver in person of Frank Agyeman and also the policeman identified as Lance Corporal Yussif Abubakar who was with him on the van.
The Retrieve
DCOP Mr Djan Kyere added that the robbers left behind GH¢39,000 in the van and had took off with the rest of the money in their get away car. They later on parked at an uncompleted gari processing factory at Akomadan to share the money.
While they where sharing the money, another policeman noticed them from a distance and called for reinforcement for their arrest.
However, the robbers took off shortly again just before the Police reinforcement team arrived leaving behind the saloon car they had used for the robbery.
An afterwards search of the saloon car proved that the robbers left behind a sum of GH¢195,000, a 3G rifle and a pump action gun.
Suspects
Finally, DCOP Mr Djan Kyere added that none of the robbers has been arrested so far. But then someone later on show up to claim ownership of the vehicle that was used for the robbery and has been arrested for interrogation.
He also added that the police are still investigating the issue.
