Ablekuma North Protest: IGP Should’ve Arrested NPP MPs – Dr. Tanko-Computer

Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sharply condemned the protest staged by Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the delay in declaring the Ablekuma North election results.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Dr. Tanko asserted that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) should have dismissed the NPP’s petition outright and taken legal action against the MPs for what he described as criminal behaviour.

“They should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve. The IGP should have arrested them,” he stated.

According to Dr. Tanko, the protest was unwarranted, especially as the controversy arose during the collation of results from 59 out of 62 polling stations. He alleged that some NPP presiding officers attempted to manipulate pink sheet figures, and that others even avoided confirming scanned copies presented by the NPP due to inconsistencies.

“Some of their presiding officers were running away from the scanned copies because they had altered the figures,” he claimed.

Dr. Tanko cited live footage showing a presiding officer rejecting a scanned pink sheet that allegedly included a rejected ballot figure not reflected in the original document. Another officer, he noted, reportedly refused to sign a version of the sheet, casting further doubt on the authenticity of the NPP’s claims.

“That means some level of criminality was conducted by the NPP,” he concluded.

The Ablekuma North parliamentary result remains a flashpoint of contention, with tensions running high between the two major political parties.
