Two Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fred Agbenyo and Thomas Tsekpo, have initiated moves to seek the removal of Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
Mr Agbenyo, MP for Guan Constituency, announced on March 17 that he intends to file a formal petition, citing unresolved concerns from the 2020 Ghana general elections.
According to him, the conduct of the elections in the Guan Constituency and Hohoe Constituency led to injustices that remain unresolved, raising questions about the Electoral Commission’s handling of the process.
He argues that these issues call into question Jean Mensa’s competence to remain in office and is therefore pushing for her removal.
Thomas Tsekpo, MP for Hohoe, is also backing the initiative, joining calls for accountability within the Electoral Commission.
The development is expected to spark renewed political debate over the conduct of the 2020 elections and the leadership of the Electoral Commission.
