Baba Jamal to Be Sworn in as Ayawaso East MP

The Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso East, , is expected to be sworn into office on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, by the Speaker of Parliament, .

Mr. Jamal secured victory in the Ayawaso East by-election held on March 3, 2026, winning the parliamentary seat for the (NDC).

In a Facebook post on Monday, March 9, announcing the swearing-in ceremony, the MP-elect expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of the constituency.

He noted that he was deeply humbled by the mandate given to him and pledged to work closely with constituents to advance development in the area.

“Indeed, Allah’s ways are perfect. I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to working together with you to build a brighter and greater future for the Ayawaso East Constituency,” he said.

In the by-election, Baba Jamal polled 10,884 votes to defeat his main contender, of the (NPP), who secured 4,009 votes.

Other candidates in the race included independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda, who obtained 1,885 votes, while Ibrahim Idrissu polled 43 votes and Kanor David secured 104 votes.

A total of 16,928 valid votes were cast in the election, with 120 ballots rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 17,048.

The by-election was organised to fill the vacancy created following the death of the constituency’s former Member of Parliament, , in January.

With his swearing-in, Baba Jamal is expected to officially take his seat in Parliament and represent the people of Ayawaso East.
