The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory to Ghanaian nationals following escalating hostilities in the Middle East.
In a press release dated February 28, 2026, and issued in Accra, the Ministry stated that it is closely monitoring the deteriorating security situation in the region amid coordinated military strikes involving the United States of America, the Israel, and the Iran.
According to the statement, recent military actions have triggered airspace closures, flight disruptions, and heightened security alerts across several countries, particularly Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Government of Ghana has called on all parties involved to exercise restraint, de-escalate tensions, and return to diplomatic engagement to safeguard lives, ensure economic stability, and promote lasting peace in the region.
As part of precautionary measures, the Ministry has advised Ghanaian nationals to avoid non-essential travel to and from the Middle East. Ghanaians residing in affected countries have been urged to remain indoors where possible, comply with directives from local authorities, avoid large gatherings and sensitive locations, and maintain heightened vigilance.
The Ministry also encouraged nationals to closely monitor official communications, keep their travel documents readily accessible, and maintain regular contact with the nearest Ghanaian diplomatic mission.
An emergency preparedness plan has been activated, with ongoing assessments regarding possible evacuation efforts where necessary. The Government has initiated the evacuation of some staff from the Embassy of Ghana in Tehran, while retaining essential personnel to coordinate assistance for Ghanaians in Iran.
The Ministry assured that Ghana’s diplomatic missions in the region remain operational and ready to provide consular support to nationals in need.
Ghanaians requiring emergency assistance have been advised to contact designated hotlines in Ghana and Israel.
