Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, said the operation was carried out preemptively to “remove threats to the State of Israel.”

As sirens sounded across Israel, the Israeli military stated it had issued a proactive alert to prepare the public for the possibility of missile launches toward the country.

The Israel Airports Authority subsequently announced that Israeli airspace had been closed to all civilian flights and advised the public not to go to airports.
