The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the University of Ghana to recover funds from senior staff members who took study leave but failed to return to their posts for more than five years.

Appearing before the Committee on Wednesday, November 5, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, revealed that the University has initiated steps to retrieve the outstanding amounts from the affected individuals.

Professor Amfo also disclosed that an additional GH₵555,283, classified as unearned salaries, is currently being recovered, with some of the cases under investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

“We have made some recoveries in this regard; some are fully paid, some are on payment plans, and there are a few cases where we have not made progress in contacting the individuals, for which we have sought the support of EOCO,” she stated.

The Committee commended the University for its efforts but urged management to expedite the recovery process and strengthen internal monitoring systems to prevent similar financial irregularities in the future.
