The Cape Coast Circuit Court 2 has sentenced a 49-year-old fisherman, Samuel Armah, to 10 years imprisonment for defiling a 13-year-old girl at Mumford in the Central Region.

The sentence was handed down by Her Honour Nana Aba Quaiba Nunoo after the accused, a father of nine, pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement, contrary to Section 101(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Entie, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred in a ghetto at Mumford. The accused allegedly lured the young girl to the location after accusing her of stealing GH₵60 and subsequently defiled her.

The prosecution presented evidence confirming the act, prompting the accused to admit guilt before the court.

In delivering judgment, the presiding judge described the act as “shameful and inhumane,” emphasising the need for deterrent sentences in cases involving sexual offences against minors.
