Former Black Galaxies and Accra Great Olympics head coach, Annor Walker, has passed away at the age of 67 after a short illness at his residence in Accra on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
His death has been met with widespread grief in the Ghanaian football fraternity, where he was admired for his tactical brilliance, dedication, and passion for developing young talent.
Walker’s coaching career spanned several top Ghanaian clubs, including Great Olympics, Nania FC, Kpando Hearts of Lions, and Berekum Chelsea. He held a CAF License A and is most celebrated for leading Nania FC to their historic 2011 MTN FA Cup triumph over Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium, one of the biggest upsets in Ghana football history.
In 2020, he returned to Great Olympics, where he assembled one of the strongest squads in the club’s recent history. Despite recurring health challenges, Walker continued to inspire his players from the touchline, guiding the team into the upper ranks of the Ghana Premier League.
On the international stage, he served as head coach of the Ghana Black Galaxies, steering the team to the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria. His leadership in nurturing home-based players earned him respect across the continent.
Annor Walker will be remembered not only for his achievements but also for his keen eye in spotting and mentoring emerging talents who went on to make their mark in Ghanaian football. His legacy lives on through the many players and teams he influenced during his distinguished career.
