The Ghana Premier League (GPL) has officially postponed its Week 20 fixtures following violent incidents that erupted after Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s 1-0 defeat to Nsoatreman FC over the weekend in Nsoatre.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced the decision as investigations begin into the unrest surrounding the match. Consequently, key fixtures, including Hearts of Oak vs. Bechem United, Kotoko vs. Young Apostles, and Nsoatreman vs. Berekum Chelsea, scheduled for February 9, will no longer take place as planned.
In response to the chaos, the GFA has summoned leaders of GPL supporters’ groups for an emergency meeting on Friday, February 7. The meeting aims to address fan behavior and explore measures to prevent future incidents of violence.

The violent scenes following the game resulted in the tragic death of a well-known Kotoko supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly called Pooley, who was reportedly stabbed. Additionally, Kotoko’s captain, Justice Blay, along with two teammates, received red cards for their involvement in an on-field altercation that escalated tensions among fans.
