Following the death of two cabinet ministers in the recent military helicopter crash, President John Dramani Mahama has announced temporary ministerial appointments to maintain government operations.

According to a statement from Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has been directed to take on additional duties as Acting Minister for Defence.

In a similar move, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, has been appointed to serve as Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.

These appointments follow the loss of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who were among eight individuals who lost their lives in the helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District on August 6.

The officials were reportedly traveling to Obuasi on a government mission when the incident occurred.

This interim measure aims to preserve stability and ensure leadership in critical areas of national development during this period of national mourning.

Flags across the country are being flown at half-mast, and a formal investigation into the crash has been launched by the Ghana Armed Forces and other relevant agencies.

President Mahama is expected to lead a national tribute in the coming days, as preparations for state funerals are underway.
