The Ghana Police Service has arrested two phone repairers at Wassa Akropong in the Western Region for allegedly tampering with smartphones sold on credit by a sales company.
The suspects, identified as Machiavelli Arthur and Gideon Ebenezer, were picked up on June 19, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two were using laptops and specialized software to illegally unlock, flash, and bypass restrictions on mobile phones purchased on credit. This allowed customers who had defaulted on payments to continue using the devices without fulfilling their financial obligations.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the illegal activity. Police retrieved laptops and other electronic tools believed to have been used in the operation.
The two are currently in custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court soon.
The Police have assured the public of their continued commitment to fighting electronic fraud and protecting businesses operating credit sales schemes.
