The Government of Ghana has announced the immediate closure of its embassy in Tehran and the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals from Iran due to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed the development in a Facebook post on Monday, June 16, 2025, citing concerns for the safety and security of Ghanaians in the region.

“In light of the escalating Israel-Iran conflict, the Mahama Administration has taken swift action to evacuate all Ghanaian nationals residing in Iran, prioritizing their safety above all,” the Minister stated.

The evacuation includes diplomats, students, professionals, and other nationals, who are being relocated through safe land borders. The embassy in Tehran has ceased operations effective immediately.

Minister Ablakwa also noted that the situation in Israel is being closely monitored, with precautionary measures already in place. Ghana’s embassy in Tel Aviv has scaled down operations, and all Ghanaians in Israel have been advised to maintain close contact with the consular office.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to citizen safety, the Minister assured that “no effort will be spared to protect Ghanaian lives and ensure their well-being during this crisis.”
