The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has uncovered an illegal settlement near Kwame Nkrumah Circle, dubbed “Lucifer Village,” during its ongoing citywide decongestion campaign.

According to Environmental Health Officer Joseph Asitanga, the area hosts unauthorized brothels, bars, and eateries constructed directly over a major drain, posing severe health and safety risks.

“This place is a public hazard. These structures are not only illegal but are dangerously built over vital drainage infrastructure,” Asitanga told reporters.

AMA’s preliminary survey suggests many of the occupants are foreign nationals, including Nigerians and Togolese, who may lack proper documentation to operate in Ghana.

In addition to unsanitary conditions, the area is reportedly a hub for immoral and criminal activities. The AMA has served notice that all illegal structures in the area will be demolished in the coming days to reclaim public space and enforce city regulations.
