16-Year-Old OKESS Student Arrested with a Gun; Claims It Belongs to Stepfather

A 16-year-old student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) has been arrested for unlawful possession of a locally manufactured firearm, the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command has confirmed.

The student, currently in Form Two, was apprehended after a routine dormitory search by school authorities on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, around 9:30 a.m. revealed the weapon in his belongings. He was immediately taken into custody and handed over to the police.

During initial interrogation, the student alleged that the firearm belonged to his stepfather, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi, who was subsequently arrested the following day, Thursday, May 15.

Both the student and his stepfather have been granted police enquiry bail and are expected to report to the authorities on Monday, May 19, for further investigations.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, disclosed these developments in a statement issued on Sunday, May 18.
