The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has ordered a replay of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Cameroon and Kenya after an investigation uncovered credible evidence of match-fixing.
The initial match, played on October 16, 2024, in Yaoundé, was deemed compromised following irregularities identified by FIFA’s Integrity and Compliance Unit. According to a statement signed by Marjan Marjan and addressed to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), a forensic review and intelligence reports from global sports integrity agencies pointed to potential match manipulation involving several individuals, including Kenyan goalkeeper Patrick Matasi.
As a result, CAF has announced the following measures:
- The match will be replayed at a neutral venue within 60 days.
- Players from both teams, including Matasi, are under investigation and could face lifetime bans if found guilty.
- The FKF must fully cooperate with investigations and suspend individuals under probe from all FKF-sanctioned competitions.
- CAF will cover all costs related to the replay.
CAF and FIFA have reiterated their commitment to fair play and transparency in football. The date and venue for the replay will be announced in due course.
