2026 WAFCONQ: Black Queens resume training ahead of Egypt clash after meeting with GFA President

The Black Queens are set to resume training on Monday as they prepare for the second leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Egypt.

This development follows a brief standoff after the players threatened to boycott Tuesday’s decisive match due to unpaid winning bonuses.

Despite securing an emphatic 3–0 win in the first leg in Ismailia last week, the team refused to train over the weekend in protest of the outstanding payments. Reports later surfaced suggesting that the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, had allegedly encouraged the players to boycott the match during a closed-door meeting, further escalating tensions.

However, calm was restored after a crucial meeting between the players and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, on Monday morning. Following the discussions, the team agreed to return to training ahead of Tuesday’s fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A win in the return leg would confirm Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco. Reaching the semifinals of that tournament would also secure the Black Queens a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
